You can create a satisfying loaf of beer bread with a crispy, golden crust and a soft, fluffy interior using just three pantry staples. This no-knead, no-yeast recipe is perfect for beginners and comes together quickly for a weeknight side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 (12 ounce) can of beer, room temperature (any light or medium lager works best)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and sugar until they are fully combined.
  3. Slowly pour the room temperature beer into the dry ingredients. Mix with a spoon just until the batter comes together. Do not overmix; a few lumps are acceptable. Overmixing develops gluten and results in a tough bread.
  4. Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
  5. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Immediately after removing the bread from the oven, brush the top generously with the melted butter. This helps create that desired buttery bread crust.
  7. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For the best rise, ensure your beer is at room temperature before mixing it with the dry ingredients.
  • To make a savory Cheesy Garlic Beer Bread, add 1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder to the dry ingredients before adding the beer.
  • This bread pairs well as a soup accompaniment bread or as a quick dinner idea side.
