This easy ham salad recipe transforms leftover ham into a creamy, tangy sandwich spread or appetizer in just 10 minutes. It is a simple, satisfying way to make a classic lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked ham, finely chopped or ground
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery (optional, for crunch)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of salt (taste first, as ham is often salty)

Instructions

  1. Place the finely chopped or ground ham into a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Add the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, Dijon mustard, and black pepper to the bowl.
  3. If you are using celery, add it now.
  4. Use a fork or spoon to mix all ingredients together until the mixture is uniform and creamy. Avoid overmixing if you prefer some texture.
  5. Taste the ham salad and add a small pinch of salt if needed.
  6. Serve immediately on bread for a quick ham sandwich, with crackers, or on lettuce cups.

Notes

  • For a smoother, more deli-style texture, pulse the ham in a food processor until finely ground before mixing with the other ingredients.
  • This recipe is excellent for meal prepping; it keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.
  • To make this a Southern Style Ham Salad, add 1/4 cup of finely chopped hard-boiled egg.
