Create impressive, bite-sized beef tapas recipes for your next gathering. This easy steak crostini recipe uses simple steps to deliver gourmet flavor, pairing tender steak with a zesty horseradish sauce and a sweet balsamic glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 baguette, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound sirloin or filet mignon steak
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush both sides of the baguette slices with olive oil. Arrange them on a baking sheet and toast for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crisp. Set aside.
  2. Season the steak with salt and pepper. Cook the steak in a hot skillet to your desired doneness, about 3 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  3. While the steak rests, prepare the horseradish sauce. In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, prepared horseradish, and chopped chives. Mix until smooth.
  4. To assemble your gourmet canapés, spread a small amount of the horseradish cream onto each toasted crostini slice.
  5. Top each slice with a few thin pieces of the sliced steak.
  6. Drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze over the steak on each bite-sized beef recipe piece. Serve immediately as impressive cocktail party food.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can lightly spread softened brie cheese on the crostini before adding the steak.
  • If you do not have balsamic glaze, you can reduce balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan until it thickens slightly.
  • Use flank steak or sirloin for a cost-effective option for these savory bites for gatherings.
