Ingredients
Scale
1 baguette, sliced 1/2 inch thick
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound sirloin or filet mignon steak
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush both sides of the baguette slices with olive oil. Arrange them on a baking sheet and toast for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crisp. Set aside.
Season the steak with salt and pepper. Cook the steak in a hot skillet to your desired doneness, about 3 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
While the steak rests, prepare the horseradish sauce. In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, prepared horseradish, and chopped chives. Mix until smooth.
To assemble your gourmet canapés, spread a small amount of the horseradish cream onto each toasted crostini slice.
Top each slice with a few thin pieces of the sliced steak.
Drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze over the steak on each bite-sized beef recipe piece. Serve immediately as impressive cocktail party food.
Notes
For an extra layer of flavor, you can lightly spread softened brie cheese on the crostini before adding the steak.
If you do not have balsamic glaze, you can reduce balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan until it thickens slightly.
Use flank steak or sirloin for a cost-effective option for these savory bites for gatherings.
